Million Dollar Robbery Turns out to be a Bust

Remember the closet robbery we wrote about, ya know the $1 million dollars worth of Birkin’s stolen from Theresa Roemer’s Texas 3,000 square foot closet? Turns out it was either an insurance ploy gone wrong, or a robbery that got the thief nothing but unwanted storage space. This story seemed absolutely ridiculous, but now we are just in shock this is actually a real story. According to Dlisted the story took a turn for the worst this week.

Fake Robbery?

Originally, Theresa was all torn up because the robber stole a clump of her deceased sons hair, birkin handbags, and precious jewelry. She claimed over $1 million dollars was lost during the robbery. After realizing everything was fake the thief did something that has us hysterically laughing. He threatened Roemer that he would contact the press about her fake assets.

On August 12th, a suspicious call came to Craig Masilow at the Houston Press, using a voice changer and a burner phone the suspect claimed to be the one to rob Theresa Roemer’s closet. He told the press every item he took some of them being fake Rolex watches, fake Hermés Birkin handbags, and a fake emerald bracelet. The robber said  he threatened to expose Roemer is she didn’t pay half a million dollars. The extortion ploy clearly didn’t work due to the fact we are hearing about this fraudulent scandal.

Masilow told the press, “I contacted Theresa Roemer and explained to her that her items were fake. I requested over half a million dollars to return her items and not expose her to the news. During the meet, it seemed as if she contacted authorities. The deal never went through. I’m following through with my threat.”

Theresa told ABC13 “He claims that whatever it is that’s in there is fake. Well, you know, if you walk into any one woman’s closet there’s gonna be valuable things, and there’s gonna be costume things, and there’s gonna be vintage things.”

Sounds like a full on war.

A lot of the jewelry taken was costume, and The Houston Press gave all the items to the police. The press said the suspect acted as though he was the one robbed. He was very upset with the outcome of the controversial heist.

Some theories are that this was a big insurance scheme. Theresa may have paid a lot to have her items insured, then had someone come rob the place to get a large chunk of change. The thief probably didn’t receive the proper compensation and revealed the scheme so Theresa won’t receive any insurance money.

Whatever happened, this story keeps getting messier and messier. We wonder what else will be exposed in this case. Who knows this could be a John Mayer situation where he found out millions dollars worth of Rolex watches he purchased were fake and now is in a mega lawsuit.
