If you’re going to be spending a good amount of money on a designer handbag, you probably want to make sure that it isn’t a knockoff. Here are a few signs that will help you tell if you bought a phony handbag.
6 Signs of a Knockoff Handbag
- The stitching: Look closely at the stitching of the bag. If it looks sloppy and uneven, it’s poorly made, and therefore a fake. Designer bags are high quality – this is why they have a good reputation and are more expensive.
- Check the label. Are the tags stamped into leather or hand-stitched? If there’s not even a name inside of the bag, it’s obviously a phony. Authenticity labels may even be on the outside of the bag, so check there too.
- Check the material. The material will tell you a lot about the quality of the bag. If real leather is used, it will smell like real leather. The bag should be stitched will and feel strong and durable. If you know that the inside of the designer bag looks a certain way, observe the inside of the bag you are purchasing to compare. Fake bags will typically have just one color throughout the inside.
- Check the logo. This is where knockoffs usually slip up. The name on the bag might be spelled a little differently, such as Carter instead of Cartier.
- Look for a serial number. This is a stamp inside that says the brand, though it may not be in all bags.
- Check the lining. Real designer handbags will be lined, most times with leather. Fake bags will sound like paper rubbing together.
