Lab vs Natural Diamonds Boca Raton
Helzberg Diamonds, owned by Berkshire Hathaway, will start selling lab grown diamonds from Scio and Renaissance Diamonds in select stores. They will be pink, yellow, and white in color. They are one of only a few retailers to test the market for man-made diamonds. Helzberg CEO commented “This year, Helzberg Diamonds is celebrating 100 years of love. Embracing innovation and change is a part of our rich heritage. Testing lab-grown diamonds, with full consumer disclosure, is only one of many initiatives to give customers choices and seek new ways to best serve them for the next 100 years.”
All of the lab grown pink diamonds are considered fancy vivid or fancy intense vivid and are .50 .75 or 1.00 carats. Price points for the diamonds will be from $5,000 to $11,000 which is well below the market price for a genuine mined diamond with the same quality. The pink diamonds are produced in a join venture between Scio Diamond Technology Corp and Renaissance. They will be sold under and inscribed with the Renaissance brand name.
Their lab-grown diamonds are created using the chemical vapor deposition process (CVD). They undergo extreme pressure and temperature to improve their color. Renaissance will cut the stones and send them to IGI in New York to get graded.
Stores that will be carrying the man-made stones are in the Pentagon Mall in Arlington, Va.; Wellington Green in Wellington, Fla.; Chandler Fashion Center in Chandler, Ariz.; and White Oaks Mall in Springfield, Ill.
Now that big retailers are openly selling man-made stones, it brings back the debate of lab vs natural diamonds Boca Raton. What is the difference between the two? What makes natural diamonds more valuable?
Lab grown diamonds actually have the same chemical composition as a genuine mined diamond. However, instead of it taking millions of years under the pressure of the Earth to create, lab-grown diamonds can be produced within a day or two. To the untrained naked eye, it is almost impossible to tell the difference between a lab-grown and mined diamond.
Lab-grown diamonds are supposed to be laser inscribed with a serial number or marking to know that it is man-made. When you look up the number engraved on the stone, you will see specs about it and prove it is lab-grown. However, there are many deceitful people out there looking to make a quick buck. Not all lab diamonds are marked with a serial number. This is done on purpose to trick someone into buying something much less valuable even though it is highly illegal. Another sign that you might be buying a lab-grown diamond instead of a genuine mined diamond is the quality. Generally speaking, lab diamonds have amazing color and clarity and very few imperfections. If the deal is too good to be true, it probably is. But if you want to know for sure that what you’re buying is a mined diamond, send it to GIA in New York. They have experts that can tell the difference between lab grown and mined.
Natural diamonds are more valuable than lab-grown because they are infinitely more rare. If you think about what has to happen in the Earth to create a diamond it is almost mind boggling. It takes literally millions of years to create diamonds. The sheer rarity of a real diamond makes it so much more valuable than something man made.
Diamonds are now thought of as parts of a piece of jewelry, but they’re much more than that. They are stones that are millions and millions of years old. To call a lab-grown diamond the same as a mined diamond is ludicrous.
