On December 3rd, the auction house Julian’s is going to be auctioning off personal items once owned by Ringo Starr and his wife (a former James Bond girl).  Among the usual musical instruments, etc, a Patek Philippe 3448 will be for sale.  It’s actually a very rare Patek with a perpetual movement.  Sell Watches Boca Raton.

Ringo Starr is obviously famous for being the drummer in the Beatles but not many remember that his wife, Barbara Bach, was the bond girl in The Spy Who Loved Me.  Together they amassed a large collection of items, mostly consisting of musical instruments.  In fact, part of the lot is a guitar that was gifted to Starr from John Lennon.

But the most interesting piece in the lot is of course the Patek Philippe reference number 3448.  This was actually the first perpetual calendar every introduced by Patek Philippe.  When you have a “first” from a company as prestigious as Patek Philippe, you know you have a good watch.  In fact, only 586 models were ever produced.  It seems as if the Beatles really had a good appreciation for watches.  John Lennon also owned a perpetual calendar Patek with moonphase and chronograph function, reference 2499.

Most of the 3448’s were made in yellow gold.  You have to look hard to find them in any other metal.  25 were rumored to be made in white gold, two in platinum, and two in rose gold.  One of the rose gold examples recently sold for $2 million at a Christie’s auction back in 2011.

Conservative estimates on the watch say it will sell for between $80,000 and $100,000.  Personally, I think it will sell for much more.  Not everyone can say the Patek they are wearing was once worn and owned by someone as famous as Ringo Starr.

Unfortunately the watch does not include the original box and papers, but it doesn’t seem to be having any effect on the price it will fetch.  Since the watch is coming directly from the original owner there is no question it is from him.  Unfortunately we were not able to find any pictures of Ringo wearing the watch back in the 70’s.
