Ressence is the most unique watch brand in the world. They use air and oil to create the most original time display we have ever seen. The sub-dials in the watch continually revolve with the disc they are set in. Their watches look digital, but aren’t. They actually house incredibly beautiful and complicated Swiss movements. They also don’t have a traditional crown to set the time. Rather a sapphire case back that can be moved with your fingers sets and changes the time. The new Ressence Type 5 looks similar to its predecessor the Type 3 and Type 1 with some major improvements. Sell Watches Boca Raton.
The Type 5 is a dive watch. You know like a Rolex Submariner or Audemars Offshore. Except it looks nothing like the two. But that’s what you get with Ressence, something new and different. Ressence calls the Type 5 the most legible dive watch of all time. And they aren’t joking. When you take Submariner diving it’s pretty easy to read the dial if you are looking right at it. But if you try to view it at an angle it gets difficult. But on the Type 5 they solved that problem and looking at the time from just about any angle will allow you to see it perfectly.
Founder and designer of Ressence, Benoit Mintiens, says that this his creation that looks most like a traditional watch. And he is right about that. It features a rotating bezel like on most divers and the watch case has lugs that connect to the bracelet. The bracelet by the way is a NATO-style strap which really gives the watch a “watch” feel.
As soon as you see the Type 5 you might mistake it for the Type 3. It looks almost identical at first glance. It has the same display that features magnets and an oil-filled chamber. The display actually looks almost exactly the same. But look at the differences in the bezels. The Type 3’s bezel is incorporated right into the case, where as the Type 5 has a separate bezel that rotates independently.
The dial on the Type 5 is more technical than the Type 3. It shows hours and minutes, a temperature gauge, and runner display. The temperature display is ingenious. It works because the watch is built in two sections. The top section where the display is, is filled with oil and the bottom section where the movement is, is completely dry. When temperature changes, oil expands and contracts. When the oil expands or contracts this controls the temperature gauge.
The most interesting sub-dial might be the one you don’t even notice, the seconds display. It is the only watch I’ve seen that has a 90 second sub-dial rather than 60 seconds as is in one minute. But it also acts as a shock absorber. The movement itself is connected to the display with magnets. But if there is a large shock, for example you bang your wrist, the magnets could be come unstuck, so to speak. To keep this from happening, there are small fins on the underside of the seconds display that stick in the oil. If there is a shock the drag the fins create keep the pieces attached. This feature is a necessity in a sport or dive watch.
