Sell Watches Boca Raton
Chronograph functions are one of the most popular complications among luxury watches. A complication is basically any function the watch performs. For example, showing the date is a complication, a moonphase is a complication, having a second hour hand to tell two time zones at the same time is a complication. But, for whatever reason, it seems the chronograph is the most popular addition to your normal time telling. Sell watches Boca Raton.
A chronograph at its core is a mechanical stop watch. There is a button that starts the second hand timer, and that same button stops it. The other button will reset the chronograph back to zero. Most chronos have at least two sub dials (smaller dials set on the large dial), one to tell how many minutes have elapsed and the other hours. But how many times do you actually need a stop watch? Most people who buy watches with a chronograph feature don’t even know how they work. So why are they so popular? The chrono sub dials add a dimension to the face of the watch that is not normally there. It makes the watch look important and stand out from others. Plus with the extra buttons on the side of the case you really add a lot of design from just one complication. Below are the best chronographs on the luxury market today. From left to right.
1. Audemars Royal Oak Offshore
Audemars Piguet, or AP for short, is most recognized by it’s octagonal bezel designed by Gerald Genta. Once you know what to look for you can spot an AP from a mile away. Most AP’s you see will feature a chronograph. It is a standard complication they add to most of their watches. Sure they do have simple watches that just tell the time and date, but the majority are chronos. As you can see, the three sub dials are placed at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock. In my opinion this is the best place to put the sub dials, and in fact all three watches featured today have them in the same place. Other companies like to put them at 6, 9, and 12 but I think it makes the watch look off balance. As you can see, the AP Chrono does feature the octagon bezel and has very straight angular lines. It definitely gives the watch an aggressive look. Most of the steel is brushed with some areas polished. It really is an every day watch that you can “beat up”, but you can also wear it with a suit.
2. Rolex Daytona
The Rolex Daytona is the most recognizable watch on this list. Everyone has seen it. You may not have realized but you have seen someone wearing the iconic Daytona. Paul Newman made this watch famous in the 70’s and its popularity has only grown. It features the typical Rolex Oyster case which is mostly round. It has a high polished bezel with tachometer numbers engraved in it. This is to be able to tell how fast you are moving. The sub dials on the Daytona are also placed at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock. However, they stand out much more than on the AP or Cartier. The outer circumference of the sub dials is white gold. It really sparkles in the light. The bracelet is the classic Rolex Oyster bracelet with polished center links and brushed outer links that get smaller the closer you get to the clasp. Surprisingly the Daytona wears much smaller on the wrist than it looks. Officially it is listed as a 40mm watch, but if you actually measure it accurately it is closer to 39mm. Like the AP, it is a great watch to wear every day and can be beat up, although it looks fancier than the AP.
3. Cartier Roadster XL Chronograph
The Roadster is the beast of the group. The case measures a whopping 49 x 43 mm. And it’s thick too. If you think the AP had aggressive styling then the Roadster is 10x more so. It truly is for the gentleman who wants to be noticed. It is a watch that stands out when worn. Most of the watch is high polished which makes it very visible. The dial features the sub dials at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock. It has an oversize magnifying glass over the date on top of the sapphire crystal. It’s hard not to notice it. The crown is huge and so are the pusher buttons. The bracelet is thick and is super heavy. The one thing about the Roadster is that really looks like a roadster! It has a design that no other luxury watch has. You know what it is the second you see it.
