The history of Panerai goes all the way back to the 19th century when Giovanni Panerai founded the company in 1860.  The official name became Officine Panerai.

In the early 20th century Panerai was already supplying the Regina Marina (Italian Navy) with watches and other instruments.   Most of their watches, at the time, had cases made by Panerai and movements made by other companies like Rolex.  They sold to the Italian Navy up until 1993 when they decided to start selling to the public.

In 1995 Sylvester Stallone started buying and wearing the brand.  It made the brand exceptionally popular and now is respected as one of the best luxury watch companies in the world.

Panerai makes hundreds of different models ranging in price from just a couple thousand to over $100,000.  Their watches are oversize thus making them extremely popular during a big watch fashion trend.
