Apple iPad Mini to be Announced Today
As I write this blog I have the Apple keynote event pulled up in a different window. It hasn’t started yet but we all know what they are going to announce: the Apple iPad Mini. I have yet to confirm the name of the device however all the rumors are all calling it the iPad Mini.
Supposedly, this new iPad will be a bit smaller than the normal iPad to compete with products like the Blackberry Playbook, Kindle, and other smaller tablets. Where the tablet was already an “in-between” between the laptop and smartphone, the iPad mini should be an “in-between” between the smartphone and full sized tablet.
Many critics are saying the market for a smaller iPad simply isn’t there. Most tablets sold are either large like the iPad or people are buying iPhone and Galaxy’s. Apparently, Apple begs to differ.
Personally, I think a smaller iPad will work. I have an iPad 2nd generation and it gets used quite often. I rarely use my MacBook anymore. The iPad mini would serve as the “travel tablet”. I could take it in the car with me, take it to work, and even fly with it. While the iPad is already relatively easy to travel with, the iPad Mini will make things even easier.
While most of the features have been rumored, the one thing we all want to know is the price! The new iPad (aka iPad 3) starts at $499. I would imagine the iPad Mini to start around $200-$300 but you never know. A $199 price point will surely drive the demand.
