Gold Buyer Boca Raton
According to the Associated Press, a scrap-metal buyer in the US bought a Faberge Egg, estimated to be worth millions, for only $14,000 over a decade ago. The Egg was actually purchased at a fair in the Midwest. Kieran McCarthy of Wartski, a London antique dealer, said the discovery is like “being Indiana Jones and finding the Lost Ark.” Can you imagine being a gold buyer Boca Raton and stumbling upon something like this?
The Egg was bought over a decade ago, but it was only a few years ago that the owner started to suspect it’s value. There is a Vacheron Constantine watch inside. He started looking up Vacheron Constantine and quickly realized those watches are quite expensive. The Egg was an 1887 Easter gift from Russian Czar Alexander III to his wife, Empress Maria Feodorovna. The last time it was ever seen was in 1902 during an exhibition in St. Petersburg, Russia.
The previous owner of the Egg, who wants to remain nameless, found an article about the 50 imperial Faberge Easter eggs made for Russian royalty. Then he contacted McCarthy who flew the US to verify it’s authenticity and help negotiate the sale. When she came to see the Egg she was surprised to see it just sitting there on the counter next to come cupcakes in a house next to the highway and a Dunkin Donuts.
When McCarthy finally decided the Egg was authentic the owner literally fell to the ground. The owner eventually went on to sell the Egg for an undisclosed amount. The most recent Faberge Egg sold for over $18 million.
