55,000 interviews were held to gather information in the 15 largest markets in the world. The 2014 Global RepTrak 100 study by the Reputation Institute ranked Rolex, tied with BMW, as the third most reputable company in the world. And they ranked number one in terms of products and services by consumers. Each participant in the study ranked five randomly assigned companies that they said they were familiar with. They were asked questions like would they use the products themselves, would they recommend the products, and would they welcome them to the community. The final scores were based on products, image, governance, personal relatability, citizenship and financial performance of the companies.
In order to qualify for the survey, companies need to fit a certain criteria. They needed to have an above-average reputation at home from 2009-2013, be public facing companies with international reach, and have revenues greater than $6 billion. The highest ranked companies “use feedback from customers and other key stakeholders to make better business decisions, and that is what makes them trusted and relevant,” the Reputation Institute said in the release of its survey results.
There were other jewelry and watch companies on the list. Swatch Group came in at number 61 and LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy) came in at number 37. LVMH owns watch companies like Hublot, Tag Heuer, and Zenith as well as Bulgari and the De Beers Diamond Jewellers stores. Disney and Google tied for first in the survey. Other companies in the top ten included Sony, Canon, Apple, Daimler and Lego, with Microsoft and Samsung tied for tenth place.
