Eisenhower’s Rolex Does not Sell at Auction
Remember when we told you about Eisenhower’s gold Rolex that was being put up for auction? If not we will give you a quick summary.
President Dwight D. Eisenhower was given a Rolex Oyster Ref. 6305 before presidency for his success during World War II and D-Day invasion. The Rolex was a special gift that the president wore religiously. You can see him on the cover of TIME magazine in July 1952. The watch was hoped to reach at least $1 million by seller, unfortunately the bidding only got as high at $475,000. The watch was bidder on during the September 17th Raleigh DeGeer Amyx Collection.
After the death of President Eisenhower, the watch was bequeathed to his army colleague Sergeant John Moaney. Sort-of recently, 30 years ago the Raleigh DeGeer Amyx Collction which is famous for having a lot of presidential items and military relics acquired the watch from Moaney’s widow.
Since the appropriate bidding price was not met for the item, a representative from the auction house said the highest bidder will be contacted and an outside agreement will be determined.
“The overall condition of the watch is excellent original, being in good running order, having minor band repairs, some normal refinishing of case and bracelet surfaces,” RR Auction said. “The case back retails its fine engraving with light wear, thanks in part to the preservation note by the man who received the watch from the president.”
The 18k-yellow gold watch as DDE inscribed on the case back and is kept in great condition for its age. If you are interested in this watch and have $1 million to shell out don’t hesitate to contact RR auction!
