The Purple Orchid Diamond Finally Exposed
After months of being cut and polished Leibish & Co. finally shows us the flawless Purple Orchid diamond. It is a gorgeous 3.37-carat fancy intense pinkish-purple diamond.
“The cause of purple in diamonds remains a mystery, which only adds to the glamour and attractiveness of diamonds like these,” said President Leibish Polnauer. “There is currently a huge demand for luxury items that are different and stand out, not something that everyone has. There is nothing more unique on the market right now than color diamonds, and this incredible purple diamond is more than a cut above the rest. There are very, very few diamonds on the market above 3 carats with purple as the main color, which is what makes this exquisite diamond so rare.”
Israeli company Leibish & Co. is very excited to announce the freshly cut diamond because not only is it a rare hue, but the clarity is a VS2 which makes it virtually inclusion free. VS2 for those of you who do not know diamond characteristics too well means very slightly included. Usually a diamond inclusion of this rating can hardly be seen even with a jewelers loop.
The cushion cut purple diamond was mined in South Africa, which is one of the few places where this color diamond can be found. Leibish said the cheif diamond buyer, Shmulik Polnauer was told about the rare rough diamond and flew to India to see it himself. The diamond was priced at a whopping $4 million!
You can see this beauty first hand at the Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair on September 15th.
If purple isn’t your color, you can look forward to the Sotheby’s auction in October for an Internally flawless pear shaped pink diamond! This one has been graded by GIA and distinguished as internally flawless! This is a great year to be a diamond miner. We are so excited to see what gets unearthed next!
