2014 proved to be the most expensive year yet when it came to jewelry sold at auction.  We saw record prices for colored diamonds, white diamonds, and even jadeite jewelry.  $1.36 billion was sold by Christie’s and Sotheby’s last year.  Both companies reached milestones in their jewelry departments.  Christie’s sold a total of $754.7 million dollars at auction which was an 11 percent increase from the year before.  Sotheby’s came in a close second selling $606 million last year.  It is the third consecutive year they have reached a new high for jewelry sales.  There were some world record sales which helped both auction houses attain record sales.  Below are the most expensive jewelry Boca Raton sales from 2014.

1.  “Zoe Diamond”

This is a 9.75 carat pear shape diamond.  Its color is considered fancy vivid blue.  As you can see from the photograph it has a super deep blue that is extremely rare, especially in a diamond this size.  It’s clarity is rated as VVS2 and it is grated potentially internally flawless.  This amazing diamond sold for $32.6 million at Sotheby’s last November.  This stone set two world records: the highest price paid for a blue diamond and the highest price paid per carat for any diamond at $3.3 million.

2.  “Hutton-Mdivani” Necklace

The Hutton Mdivani necklace features 27 jadeite strands with magnificent color, translucency, and texture.  It sold for a whopping $27.4 million at Sotheby’s in Hong Kong.  This piece set two world records as well: the most expensive piece with jadeite jewelry and the most expensive Cartier piece ever sold.  The clasp was made by the brand.

3.  “Winston Blue”

This is the top sale for Christie’s last year.  The Winston Blue is a 13.22 carat flawless diamond.  It is fancy vivid blue in color.  The stone got its name from Harry Winston which is now owned by the Swatch Group.  Winston Blue sold for $23.8 million.

Sotheby’s sold this incredible pink diamond for $17.8 million in Hong Kong in October.  While it looks pure pink its color grade is considered fancy vivid purple-pink.  It was sold set into the ring you see pictured.

5.  Cartier Diamond Brooch

The Belle Epoque diamond devant-de-corsasge brooch was made by Cartier in 1912.  This May it sold at Christie’s for $17.6 million.  It features an amazing 34.08 carat pear shape in the center.  It is set in a “Lilly-of-the-Valley” setting.

6.  “Blue Belle of Asia”

The “Blue Belle of Asia” is a cushion cut Ceylon sapphire.  It weighs an incredible 392.52 carats.  This November it sold for $17.3 million.  It set a world record for the highest price ever paid for a sapphire.

7.  “Graff Vivid Yellow”

The Graff Vivid Yellow weighs 100.09 carats.  It is a cushion cut diamond.  It’s color is considered modified fancy vivid yellow.  This stone set two world records because it was the highest price ever paid for a yellow diamond at $16.3 million and it was the highest price paid for a jewel by Graff.

8.  Ear Pendants

This pair of ear pendants (earrings) sold for $15.8 million at Christie’s.  One is set with a 6.95 carat fancy vivid blue diamond and the other has a 6.79 fancy vivid pink diamond.  You get two diamonds for the price of one!

9.  Pear Shape Diamond

This pear shape diamond is not a fancy color.  In fact, it is considered a D color on the color scale which is the best grade it can get.  Also, it’s clarity is considered flawless.  Oh and did I mention it weighs 75.97 carats!  That’s as big as your finger.  It sold for $14.5 million in Geneva in May.

10.  Cushion Cut Diamond
