Rolex Boca Raton
Baselworld is where Rolex decides to introduce its new watches. Baselworld is a watch trade show in Switzerland held annually and attended by the most prestigious watch companies in the world. Every year they either introduce a few new watches into their collection or update older models in some way to make them more relevant. This year they focused on updating a few models rather than introducing an entirely new watch. The biggest upgrades came to the Yachtmaster, Day-Date, and Oyster Perpetual while the ladies Datejust and Pearlmaster also received upgrades. Rolex also introduced a brand new movement, caliber 3255, housed in the new Day-Date line. Which Rolex Boca Raton are you most interested in buying?
The new upgrade to the Rolex Yachtmaster comes in rose gold with a black rubber strap. It also will feature a black Cerachrom bezel. There will be two new models in rose gold, one is 40mm and the other is 37mm. Both are 18k Everose gold with the brand new Oysterflex bracelet. The Oysterflex bracelet resembles a rubber strap but its resistance is more like a metal bracelet. To ensure it is comfortable on the wrist it is designed with a patented longitudinal cushion system. The clasp is also crafted in 18k Everose gold and features a safety to ensure it doesn’t open accidentally. Overall, the new Yachtmaster in rose gold looks chic and sporty.
The Day-Date is no longer 36mm. It is now 40mm. This is a much needed upgrade to a classic watch. Recent trends have shown a demand for larger watches and Rolex has come aboard. And while it is now 40mm it does not share the same robustness its older brother the Day-Date II does. It has a much thinner bezel and case and stays true to the classic design. Not only does it have a bigger case size, it has a brand new movement caliber 3255. The Day-Date was introduced in the 50’s and was the first self winding, waterproof watch that displayed both the day, date, and time. It has become an icon ever since and has been worn by more presidents than any other watch. In addition to a new size and new movement, there are a series of new distinctive dials available. They have more texture and design than in the past.
Like the Day-Date, the Oyster Perpetual needed to get bigger. No one was buying the older 36mm because it was just too small. Back in the day it was a great entry level Rolex but it lost its intrigue. I happen to think the Oyster Perpetual is a great looking watch, but it was too small. Now, in 39mm it will spark a resurgence. Also, there are a series of new dial colors and combinations that really improve the watch greatly. The only feature of this watch is an accurate time display, which is all the watch wants to be. It really needs no other features and is a great looking simple watch.
