Thieves stole over $9 million worth of jewelry on a French highway late last night. Fortunately, no one was hurt during the theft which included approximately 15 assailants.  They were approaching a toll both on the A6 highway when multiple cars surrounded the vans carrying the jewelry forcing them to slow down.  A perimeter was set near the heist but no suspects have been caught yet.  It is one of the largest reported thefts in years and resembles others done by the Pink Panther group.  It is just one of many high end jewelry thefts reported in Europe recently.  Below are some of the biggest jewelry Boca Raton thefts.

1.  Brinks-MAT Warehouse, Heathrow Airport, London, England

Approximately $39 million was stolen when thieves broke into the Brinks warehouse at Heathrow Airport.  They were planning on stealing millions in cash but when they got there they found three tons of gold bullion instead!  The robbers had help from the inside.  One of the criminals was actually related to the security guard that worked there.  But even with this inside help they had no idea the gold was there.  In fact, they couldn’t even steal it all because they didn’t bring a truck big enough.  Soon after the heist, everyone involved was caught and sent to prison, but the gold was never found.

2.  Millennium Dome, London, England

$700 million was up for grabs at this heist at the Millennium Dome in London, England.  Since the prize of the steal was so high the criminals came prepared.  Unfortunately for them, the police were tipped off before hand and caught the thieves in the act!  Not to mention the 200+ carat diamond and 12 blue diamonds they wanted to steal were replaced with fakes the night before.  Can you imagine thinking you got away with it just to learn the $700 million you stole was fake?

3.  The Museon Museum of Science, The Hague

In one of the most mysterious thefts in history, approximately $12 million was stolen from this museum without a trace.  Since the museum is closed on Monday’s it is not 100% when it happened but by the time they opened again on Tuesday the items were gone.  The museum was outfitted with security cameras which covered every square inch of the museum and nothing showed up.  The only evidence that something happened was a broken window and the fact that the jewels were missing.  If not for that no one would even know.  To this day no one has any idea who committed the crime or how.

4.  The Damiani showroom in Milan, Italy

Thieves in this heist made off with around $20 million in jewelry.  The story goes a woman complained to police the night before the heist about some noise near her house.  Nothing was made of it because there was lots of construction going on.  Meanwhile, the criminals were drilling holes through the store.  Eventually one night they came in, tied up the staff and made off with the jewelry.  They could have stolen even more but it was Oscar night.
