François-Paul Journe created F.P. Journe in 1999. It’s hard to image such a well respected high end watch brand is only 16 years old. It usually takes decades, if not centuries, for a watch company to reach the amount of respect F.P. Journe has in the watch community. Sell Watches Boca Raton.
Journe was rumored to be a quote-unquote bad kid when he was younger and was sent to a technical college when he was 14. But by 1976 he graduated from a Paris watchmaking school.
F.P. Journe’s motto for the company is Invenit et Fecit. In Latin this means he invented it and made it. What Journe means by this is not only does he invent the watches you see, he also makes it. F.P. Journe builds the entirety of their watches unlike many other high end watch brands. Some companies buy ETA movements or use other components in their watches. An F.P. Journe watch is all F.P. Journe.
Recently at an auction in Geneva, Hodinkee found the ninth watch ever produced by F.P. Journe. How do they know it’s the ninth watch exactly? Well, in order to finance his new business, Journe asked friends and family to put a down payment on 20 watches. He used the money to create his first 20 watches, each individually numbered on the top right of the dial. The watches were part of his “Souscription” Tourbillons.
The watch itself is made with platinum in a 38mm case, not too big and not too small. It has the classic F.P. Journe features with a small sub-dial the shows the time and an equally sized display of the tourbillon movement. There is also a 42 hour power reserve indicator.
The dial is an amazing gold almost bronze color that sparkles and looks different in different lights. Each one of the Souscription watches features its limited edition number near 2 o’clock. It is the only watch I’ve ever seen that shows the edition number on the dial rather than the back of the case.
The expected fetch value for this watch is between 80,000 and 120,000 CHF. Personally I think it will sell for more.
