If you’re wondering what the necklace looks like, it’s stunning.  In fact, it was once worn by Queen Nazli of Egypt.  It was made in 1939 and as you can imagine looks very Art Deco.  The maker of the necklace is Van Cleef & Arpels.  It is crafted in platinum and features over 600 round and baguette diamond in a sunburst motif.  Nazli had the necklace made along with a tiara for her to wear during her daughter’s wedding.  But believe it or not, the $4.3 million this necklace fetched wasn’t the most expensive piece of jewelry sold at the Sotheby’s auction.  Below are the best lots from last week’s auction.

This was the highest selling item in the auction.  The ring has a 25.87 carat cushion-cut sugarloaf cabochon sapphire.  The ring of Kashmir origin.  It sold for $5.1 million.  The sapphire has no indications of heating and a richly saturated and homogeneous color.

Here we have the Queen’s necklace.  It truly is an unbelievable piece.  The carat weight in this necklace is 134 carats for the round diamonds and another 77 in the baguettes, meaning over 200 carats of diamonds.  Like I said before it is made with platinum from Van Cleef & Arpels.  It sold for $4.3 million.

The emerald cut diamond in this ring weighs 38.27 carats.  In order to win this auction you would have had to bid more than $4 million.  The stone is D color and VVS2 clarity.  It is set in platinum.

Another stunning diamond, this one weighs 26.44 carats.  It’s an emerald cut stone flanked by two trapezoids.  A cool $2 million and you could walk away with this on your finger.

This is one of the prettiest brooches I’ve ever seen.  It has three fancy colored diamonds and it was made by Bvlgari.  It sold for $1.8 million.
