When someone told me “go check out the new Richard Mille RM 69”, I didn’t think much of it. I said to myself “great, another over sized, over priced, limited edition watch from RM”. It wasn’t until I first saw it online that it made perfect sense. Of course the RM 69 is an Erotic Tourbillon! Get it? Because it’s model number is 69. It’s a little tacky I know, but the watch definitely makes a statement. Richard Mille, after all, is French. And we all know how the French like to get down. Richard Mille the brand was started in 2001 in collaboration with Audemars Piguet. The main idea behind the brand is to create a limited number of exquisite watches with super advanced functions or features. Their most famous model, the RM 008, is one of the most advanced watches in the world and retails for a whopping 500,000 Euro. They also sell a $1.7 million watch that is made completely from sapphire crystal.
While most of their marketing campaigns feature famous celebrities, I think they will get all the publicity they need from the RM 69 Erotica Tourbillon. When you first see it you’ll see why it’s called the Erotica. At the top of the watch at 12 o’clock there are three titanium base-plates that can rotate. On each side of the three plates there is a word. You can rotate all three of the plates to get your desired phrase. The one featured on Mille’s main picture of the watch reads “I want to, caress, you madly”. When you scroll down the page you can see other combinations such as “Let me, kiss you, tonight”. The watch is described as a playful way to express your true inner feelings and desires.
Richard Mille is not the first, and certainly won’t be the last watchmaker to experiment with erotica on watches. Blancpain famously sells a high end watch where on the dial it shows two people making love. And there have been many other watches with this type of display. Richard Mille has always gone against the grain in one way or another and they are doing so again this time.

Typical with Richard Mille watches, the movement features a visible tourbillon movement. The power reserve is 69 hours of course. The watch is made in Grade 5 Titanium. It’s 90% titanium, 6% aluminum, and 4% vanadium. The side pushers on the watch will rotate the plates to display something different. Unlike a chronograph movement they do not start, stop, or reset a timer. The RM 69 is a large watch with it’s case measuring 50 x 42.7 x 16.15 mm.
The price has not yet been announced, but I guarantee it will have the numbers six and nine in it. Maybe something like $696,969? We will update the blog when the price is known.
