Miley Cyrus’ Homeless MTV VMAs Date Jesse Helt Wanted by Police
Remember that guy who accepted the Video of the Year award on behalf of Miley Cyrus? Ya know the guy who told his sob story about runaway and homeless young adults all over the country? His name is Jesse Helt and he is wanted by the Oregon Police for breaking in to the apartment of a man who allegedly is selling bad marijuana, according to some court record he sold the bad weed to Helt. This isn’t Jesse, 22 first crime he’s committed, in 2010 Helt was arrested on criminal mischief, criminal trespass and burglary charges. Oh boy.
Miley took to Twitter to discuss the current charges Jesse once again found himself in. She stood up for the homeless 22 year old and said, “People who are homeless have lived very hard lives. Jesse included.” She then asked her followers: “Does looking down upon the homeless help people excuse their inaction?”
In 2010 when Jesse was arrested for his misdemeanor crimes his sentence was 30 days jail and probation. Unfortunately he couldn’t commit to his probation and was arrested in November 2011. He moved to L.A. to pursue a modeling career and found himself living on the streets.
Miley met Helt at the Hollywood Homless Center My Friends Place. They gained a relationship we assume since she allowed him to accept the award this Sunday, August 24th. His shaking hands anxiously read, “I am accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States who are starving, lost, and scared for their lives right now,” Helt said. “I know this because I am one of these people.” Miley sat close by and cried as he read his close to the heart speech. We are sure it got a lot of donations, but was the time right for that. Took us back to Marlo Brando having a Native American woman accept his Oscar for The Godfather. She brought attention to the brutality of Native American’s nationally.
The Polk County Director of Community Corrections, Martin Silbernagel said that on Tuesday state officials are trying to locate Jesse to arrest him. He repeatedly has missed meetings with his probation officer. Tsk Tsk. Silbernagel then said, “He doesn’t make himself available to community supervision, and he takes off.”
Even Linda Helt, Jesse’s mother said Miley gave Jesse some money to go home to Salem for a visit. Sheriff’s detective John Williams said there was no sign of Jesse. The family currently has a sign hanging outside their door reading, “Only family & friends & neighbors at this time.”
From court records released in 2010, Helt was arrested in his hometown of Salem three times as a a juvenile, for offenses such as a juvenile with marijuana possession and being a minor in possession of tobacco products and liquor.
Sounds like this kid was bad news before he even became homeless. We are not one to judge because everyone goes through stuff, but we don’t know how well this is going to help Miley’s cause.
Miley was a performer and guest on Chelsea Handler’s final show last night on E! network. Chelsea gave special recognition to the cause and urged everyone to donate.
What do you think about Jesse Helt’s latest drama with the law? Was he just being a kid who is going through stuff, or is he just a bad kid?
