Sotheby’s 8 Carat Fancy Vivid Pink Diamond up for Auction
October is going to be quite the year for the diamond industry. October 7th the 8.41ct purple-pink diamond will be sold for Sotheby’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite sale. This diamond is one of the nicest gems Sotheby’s has seen besides the Graff Pink Diamond that sold for a whopping $46 million. The diamond weighed in at 24.76 carats!
This pink diamond was mined at De Beers and cut in New York City. Before the cutting it weighed 19.54 carats total. The stone was cut in to a pear shaped and is flawless. Gemological Institution of America got their hands on it and according to the report the stone is Internally Flawless and Fancy Vivid Purple-Pink in color. “Internally flawless clarity…is extremely rare in pink diamonds and virtually unseen in any significant pink diamond of fancy vivid or fancy intense color grading ever sold at auction,” said the auction house.
The house is estimating the diamond sells between 12.8 – 15.4 million dollars. Since this diamond is being highly praised by jewelers because of its immaculate quality we predict a lot of cash flow for this piece.
Back in November of 2010 Graff purchased their 24.76 carat for $46 million!
According to JCK, “The Sotheby’s release did not mention the 59.6 ct. Pink Star, which appeared to fetch a record $83 million when it was sold last November, then the buyer defaulted.”
We can’t wait to see what this sparkler sells for!
