Rare Pink Diamond Stolen at Auction

Rare Pink Diamond Stolen at Auction

Pink Diamond Stolen From Auction House

Auction houses worst nightmare came true on September 27th! An Australian auction house was victim to a robbery. The piece that was stolen was a rare pink diamond ring. The ring had a cost of approximated $577,000! Police said in a statement the piece was stolen during the viewing.

The Australian news said the diamond ring was so expensive because the sparkly pink center stone was dug from Australia’s Argyle mine. The Argyle mine was opened in 1985 located on Lake Argyle. This is the biggest diamond producer by volume, but unfortunately because of the low quality stones discovered the mine is closing in 2018. 90% of the worlds supply of pink diamonds is mined at Argyle. Especially this very rare one stolen in September. All 100 Acres is a very important part of the Kimberly Region.

On the “public viewing day” at the Theodore Bruce Auction House in Sydney the pink and white diamond ring was snatched. There was a mere one hundred visitors.

“The opportunity of moving this piece on will be extremely difficult due to the unique design and rarity of the pink diamonds, and we make the genuine offer that should the person or persons unknown to who took the ring return it, there will be no questions asked.”

The good news is both white and pink diamonds have laser inscriptions with a specific serial number. Making the diamonds with inscriptions is perfect for moments like this. GIA offers laser inscriptions with the serial number of the certificate now for insurance purposes.

If you are in the Australia are and know about the whereabouts of this ring please call law enforcement immediately. This diamond ring was the most expensive item being auctioned off that day. So sad.
