Patek Philippe Calatrava Pilot – Sell Watches Boca Raton

New Watch Alert – Sell Watches Boca Raton

Patek Philippe is the most respected watch company in the entire world.  They set the standard for which other watch companies strive to be.  Their watches are expensive but they hold their value.  In fact, many of them increase in value over time.  When you buy a Patek you are making an investment, not a purchase.  Which is why it was so surprising at Baselworld 2015 to see them introduce a watch you never thought Patek would produce: The Calatrava Pilot Travel Time.  It you didn’t know any better it looks like an IWC Big Pilot.  And if you know the Patek, collection it doesn’t fit anywhere inside their normal models.  Patek is known more for being classy and timeless than big and bold.  But this watch is just that, big and bold.  It looks as if Patek is trying to get onto the younger generations’ wrists to sell watches Boca Raton.

Thierry Stern, the President of Patek Philippe, didn’t shy away from admitting that 80% of the people who have seen it feel as if it’s too much of a departure from the brand.  And if you read through online reviews you will see opinions that confirm his.  However, Stern seems unfazed by the criticism.  In fact he seems to enjoy it.  He must believe in the there’s no such thing as bad press mantra.

But let’s get to the watch itself.  Unlike other sport pilot watches it is not stainless steel.  Since this is Patek Philippe after all it has a 42 mm 18k white gold case.  Inside the case is a caliber 324 S C FUS self-winding movement (automatic).  It has a dual time mechanism which allows users to see multiple time zones with a glance; a function most pilots watches have.  It also has two day / night displays, one for home time and one for local of course.  The hands are coated with Super Luminova which was invented years ago to shine super bright in the dark.  The dial was made to resemble older dials used in the 60’s and 70’s.

It is believed that Patek is trying to reach a younger generation by introducing a large pilots watch, and I can’t disagree.  In the last few years the watch trend has been towards large watches with big dials, buttons, and crowns.  The Calatrava Pilot Travel Time fits right into this mold.  However, I’m surprised they didn’t go stainless steel.  The retail price would have been much less than the anticipated $47,600 for this model and enticed even more young buyers.  However I wouldn’t rule out a stainless steel version in the future.

I think buyers will want to buy this watch just to be different.  Not everyone who enjoys horology wants a classic dress watch.  Some want a sporty watch they can wear everyday and I think Patek realized this.  At first I won’t be surprised if sales are slow for the Calatrava Pilot, but as exposure increases I think this will become one of the most popular watches in the Patek brand.
