How to Spot a Fake Rolex Deepsea
One of the hottest Rolex watches these days is the Deepsea Sea-Dweller. It’s incredibly popular because of it’s large case size (44mm) and classic Rolex design. From a distance it looks like an oversize Submariner. But because it’s so popular there are always people out there making knockoffs. Ever wonder if that friend of yours really dished out $12,000 for a watch? Well here are some tips on how to spot a fake Rolex Deepsea.
First, the most common mistake that counterfeiters make when producing a fake Rolex Deepsea is the size of the pearl at 12 o’clock on the bezel. The real one has a sizable pearl that is raised significantly above the bezel. Fake ones fail to recognize and/or duplicate the size of the pearl and most of the time it is much smaller. The pearl is the exact same size on all real ones and does not vary.
Another common mistake made is the engraving that reads “Original Gas Escape Valve” along the outside of the dial. The real one has a very specific bold font. The fake one normally is either too bold or too light. For some reason it’s hard for counterfeiters to get the font exactly the same.
Finally, the third thing to look for is the luminescence of the markers on the dial. The real Deepsea has a light blue / green luminescence. Most of the time the fake ones don’t even bother with the luminescent markers and if they do it’s the standard green variety.
While most fake Deepsea’s follow these guidelines they are always improving. Counterfeiters are only getting better with the more technology they have access too. Always be careful when purchasing a pre-owned Rolex. Buy the seller.
