You’ve searched your couch cushions and the bottom of your pockets for every last penny so you can finally afford the cheapest iPhone 5 available: the 16 GB model that comes with a two-year contract. It’s $199 for the best phone out there, which is a pretty awesome deal…right?
How Much are You Really Paying for the iPhone 5?
Well, wait just one second, let’s think this through. If you’re using AT&T and have the cheapest voice and data plan out there with pay-as-you-go texting, you’re spending AT LEAST $1,440 over the course of that two-year contract. You probably don’t even want to hear about the $5,500 you’d been spending over that period of time with an unlimited plan. But wait, there’s more. If you’re a old iPhone user, you’re also going to need a Lightening adapter and you know good and well that you cant get by on just the free apps. Chances are you’ll be downloading much more.
So, after you add up all of these extra costs, plus a phone case, protective screen, etc., you’ll probably be paying about $1,800 during the length of your contract, which is most likely a little more than you were hoping to spend on a phone. Have you really sat down and thought about how much you’ve spent or are going to spend on your smartphone since you started your contract? You may want to let that marinate for a while before you splurge on a brand new iPhone 5. Heck, you can get an iPhone 4s for way less and it’s almost the same phone but with a slightly smaller screen. Ultimately, it’s your decision.
