The new $100 bill in the wild.

Last month 3.5 billion new $100 bills were introduced into circulation.  They have been totally redesigned by the Federal Reserve.  They definitely resemble the old bills, but are much more colorful and secure.  The Fed has made use of two new technologies we’ve never seen on money before.  It is one of the biggest changes to the $100 bill in 17 years.  Get cash from your local pawn shop today and they might just give you a new $100.  Pawn Shop Boca raton.

The most obvious change you will see right away is the blue security ribbon.  It’s just off the center of the bill to the right of Franklin’s head.  The ribbon itself is made of hundreds of thousands (yes hundreds of thousands) of micro-lenses.  This causes a shift between Liberty Bells and a “100” pattern depending on how you shift the bill.

To the right of the blue ribbon, towards the bottom, is another new technology.  It is a copper colored inkwell with a Liberty Bell on it which changes from copper to green depending on which way you look at it.

Two other subtle differences include raised printing.  If you run your hand over the bill you will feel that some of the print is raised off the paper.  It is very subtle but it’s definitely there.  Also, they have used micro printing in Franklin’s collar.  It reads “The United States of America” in tiny print.

The back of the bill is completely different.  On the right side it says “100” in huge orange / yellow.  Also, instead of the picture of independence hall being from the front, it is now a view from the back.  Which means counterfeiters would have to change their plates which is very expensive.

The new bill has a cool new design.  At first it even looks like a Euro.  A lot of people use the word green to refer to US dollars, but the new bill almost looks blue.  I guess we will have to start calling cash blue!
