$935,442 Pocket Watch – Sell Watches Boca Raton

Christie’s auctions sell the highest of the high end jewelry and watches.  Last week, a pocket watch sold for almost $1 million.  And you thought that Rolex on your wrist was cool.  Well to be fair, this particular pocket watch is over 200 years old and features one of the first tourbillon movements ever.  But this Breguet wasn’t the only watch to sell for over a million, there were two more, a Patek Philippe and a Rolex.  There are high end watches, and then there are HIGH END watches.  Once you start talking 6 figures and more you have reached a whole different level of watch collecting.  Here are a few notable watches from the Christie’s auction that sell watches Boca Raton.

1.  Abraham-Louis Breguet’s first four-minute tourbillon.

This pocket watch sold for almost $1 million ($935,442 to be exact).  Why you ask?  Because it was Abraham-Louis Breguet’s first four-minute tourbillon.  It means that the carriage does a full rotation every four minutes.  It is said to be the second tourbillon he ever finished but is known as his third tourbillon.  It also features Breguet’s échappement naturel (or “natural escapement”) and may be the first one he made.  One of around only 30 that he ever made.  It is truly a one-of-a-kind piece.

2.  Patek Philippe Minute Repeater

This special Patek Philippe belonged to Henry Graves Jr. and sold for $1.37 million!  It is a minute repeating watch which means it can play a chime to tell the time.  It is from the early 1900’s and is extremely rare.

3.  Rolex 5028/5029

This is one of the most rare Rolex watches ever created.  It has a cloisonné enamel dial that I’ve never even seen before.  It is the only watch known to have this dial combination.  It sold for a hefty $1.25 million.

4.  Rolex 6062

Another rare Rolex was up for sale at the auction.  But this one didn’t sell!  It has a triple calendar moonphase function which is almost unheard of for a Rolex.  It was purchased in the 1960’s 10 years after this model was produced.  The watch remained unsold and it is thought that the dial was changed to help it sell.  The estimate on the lot was between $500,000 and $900,000 but didn’t end up selling.

All in all the auction was a success.  Whenever you see multiple lots for watches selling for over $1 million you did something right.  Christie’s remains one of the most popular auction companies when it comes to pre-owned luxury watches.
