Apple Gets Patent for iPad Design

After all that happened with the dispute between Apple and Samsung, Apple now has a design patent for the rectangle with curved corners look for the iPad. This patent is called “Portable Display Device,” which Steve Jobs took part in inventing. It was filed back in Novemeber 2012, just 6 months after Apple launched its first-generation iPad tablet, but just got approved on Tuesday by the US Patent and Trademark Office. The patent uses five images to show the design from various angles.

The patent should keep competition from using Apple’s design, or at least give Apple something to use against people in court. However, we aren’t sure if the patent can be used during the lawsuits that Apple has going against Samsung for supposedly stealing its tablet design.

Apple was awarded more then $1 billion in damages by a jury earlier this year for patent infringements against the manufacturer – there was even a chance that some Samsung devices would be banned from the U.S.

Despite the fact that Samsung was found guilty of infringement for 28 devies (some aren’t even being sold in the U.S. anymore), Apple said that it “has tailored this list to address a portion of the immediate, ongoing, irreparable harm that Apple is suffering.” Hopefully this new patent will prevent anymore drama in the future!
