Man in Wheelchair Robs Connecticut Jewelry Store

Wheelchair Robbery

When you see someone in a wheelchair your initial thought isn’t “that man is going to rob a jewelry store”. On Saturday a black male around the age of 40, wearing a black suit jacket, matching pants and a fedora sat in a wheelchair and you won’t believe what happened next!

After a man in a wheelchair entered Connecticut jewelry store, Sidney Thomas Jewelry in Stamford Mall things got a little chaotic. The man rolled up to the watch case where two clerks assisted him. One of the sales associates behind the counter handed him a watch, he didn’t like it. He proceeded to try on a second watch, handed it back and didn’t like it. The third watch was a $27,000 Rolex that he took a liking to.

After wearing the watch and observing it for a minute he stood up, pushed a second clerk out of the way, knocked down what appears to be the security and made a quick getaway. Police say he also used pepper spray. The mans fedora fell off during his exit and police have identified him well enough  because of surveillance footage. Police say the man was about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. “That shocked me a lot – it looks like he really needed that wheelchair, and then all of a sudden, he just dashed right out like that,” said Yasmine Bahrani of Stamford.

“It’s a shame that he takes advantage of other people’s other handicaps,” said Stamford police Lt. Diedrich Hohn. “I think they felt a false sense of security because he was in a wheelchair.”

Hopefully this man is caught soon! Luckily there were no deaths and only one item was taken. If there is any information on the crime give Stamford Police a call at (203) 977-4417.
