Diamond Engagement Ring Boca Raton
As the famous Beyonce once said, if you like it you gotta put a ring on it. But make sure you actually ask her to marry you, otherwise you might lose the ring! That’s just what happened to Joseph Robert Torres after his girlfriend Debbie Lopez dumped him. She kept the $10,000 ring and didn’t want to give it back. So Torres took Lopez to court based on the rule that if wedding plans to pan out, the ring goes back to the man who proposed. But it turns out, Torres never formally proposed to Lopez and the judge let her keep the diamond engagement ring Boca Raton! Wait, what?
At court, Torres said that he definitely proposed to her in 2010 at Rockefeller Center. The couple’s 6-year-old child presented Lopez with the ring. Sounds romantic right? But two years later in 2012 when they broke up, she said she didn’t have to give back the ring because he never actually proposed. Lopez wore the ring but said “Maybe, I don’t know yet,” when asked if she was engaged, according to court records. She then went on to say “When he gave it to me, he said it was a gift for being a great woman, a good mother of his child”.
On October 14th, the judge ruled that Lopez didn’t have to give the ring back because it was “given as a gift and not in contemplation of marriage.” Torres’ attorney Jasmine Hernandez said her client was shocked by the ruling. “He asked [her] to marry him, and the defendant said absolutely,” Hernandez said.
