TAG Heuer just introduced the newest member to its Carrera collection: The TAG Heuer Connected smartwatch.  It is the first time a luxury watch company known for its mechanical watches has dove head first into the smartwatch community.  It’s a big risk for the company who is known for their precise automatic and mechanical movements.  TAG Heuer has been an innovator over the years so it is fitting that they are the first luxury brand to experiment with a smartwatch.  It would be hard to see Rolex doing this.

At first glance, the TAG Heuer Connected smartwatch looks just like a normal Carrera chronograph.  We’ve all seen the watch, it has three sub dials, large minute indicators, and the date window at 3 o’clock.  In fact, if you don’t know you’re looking at a smart watch you might not even realize it.  Unlike the Apple watch, which looks like an electronic device, the Connected looks like a high end watch.  The case resembles the mechanical Carrera in every way.  It has lugs, a fixed bezel with number indicators, and a rubber bracelet.  If you are looking to try out a smartwatch, but haven’t been thrilled with the design of the Apple watch, the TAG is for you.  The seamlessly incorporated a digital screen into a mechanical watch case.

Speaking of the case, it’s on the larger size measuring 46.2 mm.  For comparison a standard gents watch these days ranges from 39-44 mm, so this is just above the high end.  It’s also 12 mm thick which is on the larger size as well.  The case is actually titanium, so while it is rather large it is also very light.  Like I said before there is a fixed bezel with number indicators that only help make this smartwatch look like a regular watch.  The strap is black rubber which keep the weight down as well.  For such a large watch it really feels comfortable on the wrist.

As far as the digital aspects go, the dial is a 1.5″ transflective LTPS LCD screen.  It has 240 pixels per inch which help make a clean and crisp look, as if you  were looking a real dial, not a screen.  There are three dial options that you can choose from by pressing hard on the dial.  One is a GMT, ones is standard, and the other that you see here is a chronograph.  Switching between dials is quick and easy.

There is 1 GB of main memory and 4 GB of storage.  Since the watch runs the Google Wear OS you can receive weather alerts, text messages, and phone notifications on your wrist just like the Apple watch.  However, it does not have sensors for heart rate monitoring or workout apps.

For $1,500 the TAG Heuer connected smartwatch is priced a bit higher than its competitors.  But then again there is nothing similar.  The Apple Watch is an electronic device that looks nice, but the TAG is a luxury watch first that has smartwatch capabilities.  You can learn more at TAG Heuer online.
