Diamonds Boca Raton
Buying a diamond and/or engagement ring can be one of the biggest decisions you make in your life. Not only from the financial aspect but from the life decision aspect as well. You buy an engagement ring to give to someone you want to spend the rest of your life with. But how do you know you are buying the real thing? Technology has improved exponentially within the last few years, especially when it comes to “fake” diamonds. They look so much like the real thing that even jewelers and experts are getting fooled. When you are spending multiple thousands of dollars on something you want to make sure you are getting what you are paying for. So how do you tell the difference between cubic zirconium, or a lab grown diamond, or a natural diamond? Here are some quick tips to make sure you are buying real diamonds Boca Raton.
First, we will start with CZ’s. To the naked and untrained eye, a CZ looks just like a diamond. Both sparkle, are almost identical in color, and are cut in all different shapes and sizes. But, when you start to dig deeper, there are some major differences. First, if you have the stone loose, get a piece of paper with writing on it, grab the stone, and put it upside down on the writing. If you can clearly read the text through the stone, chances are it’s a CZ. Diamonds are special because of the way they disperse light within. A CZ cannot replicate this and will therefore be more or less transparent. Second, CZ’s are usually 50%-100% heavier than a diamond. So what you can do is measure the stone, and look up approximately how many carats it should weigh. If you throw it on a scale and it weighs twice what it should, it’s not a diamond. Third, is the breath test. CZ’s retail moisture better than diamonds. If you breathe on a CZ it will fog up for multiple seconds, like glass on your car window. But diamonds will only fog up for a fraction of a second before disappearing.
Lab grown diamonds are a bit more difficult, because their actual composition is that of a diamond. Except that instead of being created over millions of years from the pressure of the Earth, they can be made within days. Lab grown diamonds are the hardest to tell apart from a genuine mined diamond. However there are clues that can help you figure it out. First, all lab grown diamonds are supposed to be laser engraved with a number. When you look up that number, from the company who made the diamonds, you will see the stone’s specs and know that it is lab grown. It is illegal for anyone to sell a lab grown diamond without disclosing that to the buyer. So in theory you should know whether you are buying a lab diamond or not. However, there are bad people out there always looking to make a quick buck. So getting fooled can be easy. One thing about lab grown stones is they have few to no inclusions. Most diamonds have multiple inclusions and are not colorless. If you come across a perfect diamond at too good of a price to be true, it’s probably lab grown. Other than that it’s very hard to tell without the experience of an expert. If you want to know for sure, send the stone to GIA where their diamond experts will evaluate the stone and give you a proper answer.
Buying a diamond can be a scary proposition. Not only are you spending a lot of money but you want to make sure you are not getting jipped. Since diamonds are so small and there is so much money in them there will always be people looking to pull a fast one. Hopefully these tips will help someone from getting screwed over.
