The Submariner started as a stainless steel dive watch but now comes in various precious metals.  For example you can buy an all yellow gold version of the watch.  Even though it technically is certified to dive 1,000 feet I doubt you would take a $30,000 gold watch with you into the ocean.  My point is the Submariner has become a fashion statement as much as a functional watch.  The Sub also comes in a couple variations of stainless steel and yellow gold, two tone.  You can get one with a blue dial and bezel or black dial and bezel.  Often gets lost, however, is the Serti Submariner.

The Serti Submariner is no different from a two tone Submariner, the only difference is the dial.  There are two choices when it comes to a Serti dial: gold or silver.  Both the gold and silver dials feature eight diamonds and three sapphires.  The diamond markers are at 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, and 11 o’clock.  The sapphire markers are at 12, 6, and 9.  What the Serti dial does is add a level of sophistication to the watch.  No longer is it just a fancy dive watch, now it has diamonds and sapphires set on the dial.  The silver dial has a great rhodium finish which really gives the watch a sparkle.  The gold dial is nice too if you want something that looks a little more luxurious.
